CUnderstanding Strangulation and Traumatic Brain Injury Across the Lifespan to Enhance the Medical Forensic Exam

Strangulation and Traumatic Brain Injury is a lurking presence in IPV and sexual violence across the lifespan. The severity of strangulation and traumatic brain Injury poses severe short-term and long-term health consequences, and even death. Without knowledge and understanding of the resources for guidance, Forensic Nurses may fail to recognize Non-Fatal Strangulation and Traumatic Brain Injury during a Medical Forensic Exam. These clinicians may also miss critical opportunities for potentially lifesaving assessment and intervention. This webinar will give non-fatal strangulation and traumatic brain injury the focus it deserves. IAFN Strangulation resources will be highlighted and include detailed guidance on assessment techniques, documentation, and evidence collection in order to ensure providers are equipped to give the highest standard of care to victims of all ages who have experienced strangulation and traumatic brain injuries as the result of IPV and sexual violence.
