 Sexual Assault Services Program Announced
Cindy Dyer, Director for the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), today announced the newly designated Sexual Assault Services Program. The program will support the establishment, maintenance and expansion of rape crisis centers and other programs and projects to assist those victimized by sexual assault. This program was authorized as part of the Violence Against Women Act and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005. (For entire article click here)

Sexual Assault—Forensic and Clinical Management Virtual Practicum DVD is a unique, comprehensive and cost-effective training tool that helps you advance skills in all aspects of sexual assault forensic examinations, from initial meeting, to patient-centered medical examination and treatment, to proper collection and preparation of evidence, to pretrial and courtroom preparation. OVC is seeking applicants for the Hope Grant Program. Through its Helping Outreach Programs to Expand (HOPE) grant awards, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) will provide up to $10,000 each to grassroots community- and faith-based victim service organizations and coalitions to help them improve their outreach and services to crime victims.  Please visit their website for more information, including the application and deadlines.

The March Funding Alert is now available!  Compiled by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, this month's resource includes grants for Youth Violence Prevention as well as others.  You can download the latest funding alert at this link

New FREE on line course available from the National Judicial Education Program.  Intimate Partner Sexual Assault:  Adjudicating This Hidden Dimension of Domestic Violence, is a 12 module course, which was written for judges.  The course and resources it references are multi-disciplinary and will be useful for attorneys, advocates, law enforcement, forensic sexual assault examiners, and victim service providers.  Part I is now available on line!  Register on line at their website.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is pleased to announce the availability of The Effects of Childhood Stress on Health Across the Lifespan.   This document summarizes the available research on childhood stress and its long-term consequences.  This publication provides practitioners, especially those working in violence prevention, with ideas about how to incorporate this important information into their work.  You can go to the CDC website to see this sentinel study!  Click on this link to be directed to the CDC site.
