Janelle Melohn

Janelle Melohn is the Director of the Crime Victim Assistance Division in the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.  Janelle has been with CVAD for fourteen years, oversees a staff of 30 individuals, an annual budget of roughly $40-$50 million dollars and eight statewide programs aiding victims of crime. These programs include Crime Victim Compensation (CVC), Sexual Assault Examination payment program (SAE), Victim Service Support program (VSS), Safe At Home (in collaboration with the IA Secretary of State), Iowa Victim Information & Notification Everyday (IowaVINE), Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI), Registrant Watch (sex offender notification system-in collaboration with IA Department of Public Safety) and the Identity Theft Passport Program (IDPP). Through the VSS program, CVAD is Iowa’s primary victim service grantor, providing administration and oversight of federal Family Violence Prevention & Service Act (FVPSA) funds, Victims of Crime Act Assistance & Compensation (VOCA) funds, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) funds, Sexual Assault Service Program (SASP) funds and two state funding streams.

Janelle currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators; as a Trustee on the National Council on Criminal Justice; on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Crime Victim Compensation Boards and formerly as the Co-Chair of the Friends of Iowa Civil Rights Inc. Janelle is also a member of the American Society for Public Administrators.

Janelle received her BS in Sociology with minors in Spanish and Criminal Justice from Iowa State University.  She received her Master of Public Administration from Drake University and was an inductee to Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Administration.
